Maccaferri Reno Mattresses are made from one continuous mesh panel, so there are no joints to weaken the structure and can be filled onsite or pre-filled and placed in position.
The rock helps to limit movement during high-flow conditions and can handle high water velocities. This preserves the environment and encourages natural vegetation to grow which provides a more visually appealing landscape.

For these reasons, Reno Mattresses are mainly used in weirs, river and creek protection works, channel linings, as well as for erosion control and stabilising embankments and slopes. There are many other advantages to using Gabions and Reno mattresses and they are frequently used in large civil projects as well as in smaller residential ones.

Prospect Contractors only use genuine Maccaferri Reno Mattresses and are trained in accordance with the Maccaferri guidelines for Gabion installation, ensuring the consistent and outstanding quality of the finished product. The PVC coated Galfan wire offers up to three times more protection against corrosion than zinc coated wire and can have a lifespan lasting up to 100 years. Laced together, Gabion baskets form a strong, flexible and monolithic structure. They are also permeable, eliminating any water pressure building up behind the wall and being flexible, they accommodate any ground movement.

Gabions also diffuse, absorb and reduce noise, with the sound unable to pass under or through the one-meter thickness of the filled wire baskets. Sandbags are also often incorporated into the wire Gabions, increasing the sound absorption.

Rockweld Gabions

Rockweld, our own welded mesh Gabions are becoming a popular choice for architectural applications as they create a slimmer profile and are used in areas such as fencing, feature walls, cladding and smaller retaining walls, that don’t require as much stabilisation.

Rockweld is constructed out of rigid, galvanised steel mesh panels, which are laced together and stabilised with posts into the ground and are filled with rock, stone or pebbles. Our Rockweld is constructed out of welded mesh that can be configured in many shapes and sizes and filled with rock. The rock can be hand-faced or tipped-in, depending on the effect that is wanted.

There are many applications and advantages to using Rockwled Gabions and in this story, we show you seven ways you can utilise Rockweld in your next home improvement project.

Wind Barrier: A Rockweld wall can be used in a garden to protect the vegetation from wind and sun.

Privacy Screen: Rockweld can be installed in areas that require screening from passers-by in a front garden or to create a secluded, sheltered area in a back garden.

Sound Proofing Outside:Rockweld fences are being installed in front gardens to reduce noise from passing traffic. They also provide privacy and security as well as being very strong and durable. In the unfortunate event of a vehicle crashing into the fence, the rock wall will stay intact and standing. They also have the added benefit of being fire proof (unlike brush fencing) and are an undesirable surface for tagging!

Sound Dampening Inside: Rockweld can also be used as a cladding on an interior or exterior wall. It can help absorb noise in a room that doesn’t have great acoustics, such as in restaurants and office spaces. Rockweld cladding also provides insulation and maintains the internal temperature.

Retaining & Erosion Control: Rockweld can be used in areas that need retaining in your garden. They are a slim line alternative to traditional wire Gabion baskets, creating a more architectural look to modern homes. Rockweld retaining walls can be stepped, curved or straight and are generally used for more aesthetic purposes in areas that don’t require as much stabilisation. They are not recommended in areas that have water flow.

Outdoor Seating: Rockweld can also be used in outdoor bench seating and retaining wall seats. They can be designed to suit a specific area, for example to fit a corner and can be straight or curved. The seating added to the top of the baskets, can be made out of timber slabs or slats, concrete or recycled wood plastic composite.

Pool Fencing: Another interesting use for Rockweld is around a swimming pool. They look great as a backdrop and feature wall adjacent to a swimming pool, or as pillars with glass fence panels in between.

Contact us for more information and a free, no obligation quote. The Gabions were portable and were made and deployed quickly wherever needed. They are still used today in military bases, protecting soldiers in mess halls and sleeping quarters.

Today, Gabions can be individually designed and installed to offer protection against noise, traffic and even fire! The main reason for this is that Gabions that are made of double twisted, galvanised wire or galvanised steel (and are filled with a high density rock) combine together to make a strong, durable and solid structure! Gabions also have the added benefits of providing privacy and screening against the wind. Applications include noise walls, road barriers, bollards, columns or pillars, of various shapes and sizes.

Areas that will benefit the use of Gabions are private homes, schools and public spaces like entertainment venues, playgrounds, shopping centres and car parks. The use of natural rock blends with the environment, providing a softer, more natural division between spaces. This makes Gabions a popular choice amongst landscape designers and home owners.

There are many ways to incorporate Gabions that can offer style and protection, in this post we have gathered some ideas for inspiration. Gabions can be fixed to existing walls or installed as freestanding room dividers. They can be used in reception desks, island benches and bars. They also look great in outdoor rooms ‘bringing the outside in’ while at the same time minimising noise.

Thermal Mass

Thermal mass is the ability of a material to absorb and store heat energy and can help maintain comfortable temperatures inside your home year round. Thermal mass will also assist the ventilation system in providing cool air during the summer months and warm air during the winter months. A building with a Gabion wall not only provide protection from the sun outside, but also allows the wall to ‘breathe’ as the space between the rocks allow the air to flow through and cool the inside.

Woven mesh Gabions are also an ideal method of creating thermal mass under the floor, due to their strength and long-term durability. They can trap and hold cold air, which can then be used as a passive air-conditioning system during summer.

We have collated here some great examples from a search of Gabions used in interior architecture. They're not only visually appealing, Gabions also have many practical advantages when using quality Gabions that are installed by experienced installers. Some of the advantages are:

Cost Effective- Gabion installation often requires minimal labour and plant, depending on location and accessibility. Gabion structures can therefore be built virtually anywhere at a competitive cost.

Environmentally Friendly - Gabions have much less impact on the environment than other construction materials such as concrete. They have even improved environmental quality at a number of locations.

Aesthetically Pleasing - Gabions have a natural appearance which is enhanced when vegetation growth is encouraged.

Durable - The double twisted wire mesh of the Gabion baskets we use, ensure that they will not unravel in the event of one or more of the wires breaking. The PVC coated Galfan wire offers up to three times more protection against corrosion than zinc coated wire.

Adaptaple - Gabions can be used in environmentally sensitive locations, including marine environments.

Long Lasting - Gabions can last 100+ years, depending on the application and coating.

Strong - The fastening procedure ensures that the units act as one extremely strong monolithic structure.

Flexible - Gabions are able to accommodate significant differential settlement.

Low Maintenance - Usually minimal maintenance is required as Gabions are extremely durable and long lasting.

Permeable - This stops hydrostatic pressure being built up behind retaining structures and makes Gabions an ideal solution in marine and freshwater environments.

Rapid Installation - Gabions can be installed at a much quicker rate than concrete, as no footing or curing is required.

Contact Prospect Contractors
on (08) 8297 6611 for a free, no obligation quote

10 More Gabion Retaining Wall Ideas

Gabions are the ideal solution to soil stabilisation and erosion control for gardens, roadsides and waterways. The stability of a mass gravity retaining wall relies upon the structural integrity of the Gabions (their ability to hold together under load, including their own weight and support and stabilise unstable soil). All wire Gabions are 'hand faced' which means we hand place the flat face of each rock against the sides of the baskets, minimising gaps and creating a flat, uniform finish which also reduces pressure on the walls of the baskets.

There are many advantages to using wire Gabions for retaining purposes. As well as being able to accommodate differential settlement, Gabion retaining walls are permeable and environmentally friendly. The double twisted woven netting that we use, ensures that in the event of a wire being cut, the double twist prevents the unraveling of the mesh. All the edges of the Gabion baskets are reinforced by a stiffer and even stronger wire.

As no footing or curing is required, they can be installed quickly and cost effectively. The durability of the PVC coated Maccaferri baskets, when installed by qualified and experience installers also ensure that the retaining wall will be around for a very lifetime.

Rockweld Gabion Walls

Prospect Contractors also install low Rockweld Gabion retaining walls in areas that are suitable. The rigid, galvanised steel mesh panels are laced together and stabilised with posts into the ground. They create a slimmer profile and are used for more aesthetic purposes in areas that don’t require as much stabilisation. They are not recommended in areas that have water flow.

For more information and a free, no obligation quote, contact Prospect Contractors

Need a Retaining Wall But Have Limited Access? Gabions are strong, yet flexible and permeable. Prospect Contractors only install Quality assured Maccaferri baskets. They are extremely durable and have a life span of over 100 years in a dry environment.

There are many benefits to using pre-filled Gabions. Along with the same advantages as our Gabions constructed on site (such as durability, permeability and flexibility) the main benefits to using the prefilled baskets is that construction time on site is significantly reduced. This is a big advantage when access is limited due to traffic along railways and roads. There is also the reduced risk to workers on locations such as on un-stabilised excavation pits. Additionally, due to safety procedures, we’re reducing the risk of interfacing with heavy plant and equipment.

Gabions can also be lowered into place into rivers and creeks, where the water levels are too deep, or access is difficult for manual installation. Due to their permeability and durability, Gabions provide immediate protection against bank erosion.

Prospect Contractors have been installing Gabions for over 20 years. This will guarantee the best possible finish, aesthetically and structurally.

There are several important factors to consider when thinking about taking on a Gabion project for yourself. The quality of the Gabion baskets and the rock used for filling are just two very important things to mindful of before you even begin.

One of the biggest problems with using inferior products is they can sag and bulge which not only look unsightly but in time, may actually collapse! Gabions installed by Prospect Contractors will stand firm and straight and remain that way. This is because of three main factors:

1. We only use quality assured wire baskets from Geofabrics that provide strength, flexibility and durability. The strength of these traditional wire baskets come from a double twisted hexagonal mesh of steel wire. In the event of accidental breakage of one or more wires, the double twisted wire configuration ensures that minimal strength reduction occurs. In our Rockweld product we only use quality Australian steel weld mesh that is laced together with stainless steel C Rings.

Unfortunately, there are cheaper and poorer quality Gabion products available. Many times, where Gabions are supposedly installed to the specified requirements, they do not comply with relevant national and international standards with respect to quality, performance, and methods of manufacture.

2. At Prospect Contractors we only use suitable rock that must be dense, hard, durable and resistant to elements such as air and water. We generally use sandstone or bluestone in our walls. Rock size must be a minimum of 100mm and a maximum of 200mm.

Rock can be utilised from your own property but may not be the right size or be as durable as the rock we source from local quarries.

3. Our qualified installers hand place the flat face of each rock against the sides of the baskets, minimising gaps and creating a flat, uniform finish which also reduces pressure on the walls of the baskets. Concrete retaining walls are often used but Gabion retaining walls have so many favourable qualities. Gabions have been used in many large infrastructural projects for over a hundred years and more recently in domestic situations. If you are considering using Gabions, here are 5 reasons why they are a great choice!

1. Sustainable

Gabions do not have a negative impact on the environment compared to concrete structures, which can leave a high carbon footprint. Carbon footprint analyses show that the use of Gabions can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80%. Gabions can improve the environmental quality even further if vegetation is allowed to grow around the Gabions.

2. Durable and Long Lasting

Prospect Contractors only install quality assured Maccaferri Gabions. These baskets have double twisted PVC coated Galfan wire, which offers up to three times more protection against corrosion than zinc coated wire. Maccaferri Gabion baskets can have a lifespan lasting 100+ years.

3. Permeable

With any retaining wall, proper drainage must be provided to reduce the hydrostatic pressure of ground water behind the wall. Gabions are permeable and allow moisture to pass through, which makes them especially suitable in aquatic environments such as marine and river. Concrete however, can develop cracks due to excessive pressure and even from changes in temperature.

4. Aesthetically Pleasing

As Gabions are filled with natural rock (which are often sourced from the local area) they blend beautifully with their surroundings. Again, if vegetation is allowed to establish, this helps the retaining wall blend in with the environment even further. Concrete on the other hand can look cold and harsh in a natural environment, especially in settings like creeks and rivers.

5. Quick and Cost Effective

Gabions can be quicker to install compared to concrete, as no footings or curing are required. This also helps keep the cost down, making Gabions a more economical solution.

Prospect Contractors have installed manyGabion Retaining Wallsover the years, in the civil, commercial and domestic markets. Here we want to show just one example of how beautiful Gabions are as a creek retaining wall, compared to a concrete channel.

Contact Prospect Contractors for more information or for a free, no obligation quote.

10 Hot Gabion Fireplace Ideas

A Gabion fireplace can be a unique statement piece in your indoor or outdoor living area. Traditionally we have always used Reno Mattresses and Riprap for erosion control and we can also provide installation of Geoweb and Elcorock. We explain here the difference between the four main erosion control products and services we provide.

Reno Mattresses

Prospect Contractors use Maccaferri Reno Mattresses, which are thin, flexible rectangular mesh cages made from double twisted woven wire mesh. Natural rock is used to fill the cages on site creating a flexible, permeable and monolithic structure to provide erosion control and scour protection of slopes. They are also highly permeable which makes them suitable for promoting the regeneration of plants along river, creeks and streams. This makes them ideal for environmentally sensitive areas and allows them to blend into the environment. Hydraulic testing of Reno Mattresses has shown that by containing rock within the cells of the mattresses considerably reduces rock movement under high water flow. As a result, smaller and less rock is required for channel lining works.

Riprap

Riprap, also known as rock armor, is a layer of loose rock used mainly to protect shorelines, streambeds, bridge abutments and pilings against scour and erosion. A variety of different rocks are used including granite and occasionally concrete, which need to be angular to help the rocks to ‘lock’ together. A geotextile membrane is always laid first to prevent the soil from slipping through the rocks.

Geoweb

The Geoweb system consists of a robust three-dimensional structure housing a network of interconnected cells that confine and compact soil. The confinement action prevents erosion and improves the structural performance of the soil or aggregate infill, providing an alternative to reinforced concrete or armour. Geoweb comes in collapsed, lightweight panels, which can be handled easily, and safely onsite. This system can also promote vegetation growth when filled with soil. Geoweb is usually used for slope and embankment stability and channel lining. It is often used in road and rail foundations and for temporary access roads as it increases load capacity in heavy traffic areas.

Elcorock

Elcorocks are sand-filled geotextile containers built to form a strong yet flexible defensive barrier against erosion. Because of this they are widely used in the construction of sea walls, groynes and riverbank protection. Elcorock can be filled with sand and other easily sourced materials, which improves the general amenity of the area. They are fast and economical to install which also makes them ideal for temporary or emergency works. They are also quick and easy to remove if no longer needed.

Prospect Contractors use Quality Assured Maccaferri and Geofabric products that provide strength, flexibility and durability. The riverbank supports and holds in the soil and prevents your land from washing away. If your riverbank has been eroded by floods and debris, the continuing scouring causes problems not only to your land but also to the whole ecosystem.

Gabions and Reno Mattresses are the ideal solution, especially for heavily eroded river and stream banks. Gabions are wire mesh baskets and are commonly filled with sandstone, bluestone or river pebbles. Gabion baskets were first industrially produced in the 1880’s, when the double twisted wire mesh was first introduced. This particular double twisted woven netting ensures that in the event of a wire being cut, the double twist prevents the unraveling of the mesh. A stiffer and even stronger wire reinforces all the edges of the Gabion baskets.

Unlike concrete, Gabions and Renos will not leach harmful chemicals into the water and will have a longer life span in the aquatic environment as they are PVC coated to prevent corrosion. Gabions are also naturally flexible, as they accommodate significant differential settlement and are permeable in their structure. As river sediments become trapped in the spaces between the rocks, vegetation growth is encouraged. The spaces also provide protective habitats for small aquatic creatures to live and lay their eggs.

Prospect Contractors have installed Gabions to a number of properties along the Murray River that also have numerous passing speedboats. The Gabions have the added advantage in that they act as a shock absorber, dissipating the wake back out to the river. We have also installed Gabions at farmer’s property in Wellington at Lake Alexandrina, who needed a barrier to stop debris from fallen branches and silt accumulating around the pump inlets that bring water to the livestock on his farm.

Prospect Contractors have also installed Gabions and Renos into many creeks, from smaller domestic projects through to large civil projects, locally and interstate. We install only quality assured Maccaferri and Geofabric products and our installers are trained in accordance with the Maccaferri guidelines for Gabion installation, ensuring consistent, outstanding quality of the finished product.

Wire Gabion Walls

Traditional wire Gabion baskets are the most suitable type of Gabion for retaining walls and are laced together to create what is known as a Mass Gravity Wall.

As no footing or curing is required, they can be installed quickly and cost effectively. The durability of the PVC coated Maccaferri baskets, when installed by qualified and experience installers also ensure that the retaining wall will be around for a lifetime.

Rockweld Gabion Walls

Prospect Contractors also install low Rockweld Gabion walls in areas that are suitable. The rigid, galvanised steel mesh panels are laced together and stabilised with posts into the ground. They create a slimmer profile and are used for more aesthetic purposes in areas that don’t require as much stabilisation. In this blog we have answered some of the questions most frequently asked. Please give us a call if there is anything else you would like to know!

1. What are Gabions? Gabions are wire or weld mesh baskets, filled with rocks or pebbles and then laced together to create a strong, uniform structure. Even though they have been around for thousands of years, they have become a popular trend in recent times because of their many advantages, as well as looking great!

2. What sizes are the baskets? Our wire baskets are 1m cubes but can also be cut into half size baskets.

Our Rockweld weld mesh comes in sheets so it can be cut to the size required.

3. Do you sell the Gabion baskets? Prospect Contractors install Maccaferri Gabion wire baskets only and we do not supply the baskets on their own. Prospect Contractors are the only company in South Australia that is accredited by Geofabrics for the installation of Gabions. Our installers are all trained in accordance with the Maccaferri guidelines for Gabion installation, insuring consistent outstanding quality of the finished product. As we 'hand face' our Gabions, they are renowned for their clean, straight lines!

4. Is council approval needed? It depends on your local council but generally, any wall higher than 1 meter does require council approval, which we can organise for you.

5. What rock do you fill the baskets with? AS2758.4-2000 is recommended and the rock size must be a minimum of 100mm and a maximum of 250mm. The rock used must be dense, hard, durable and resistant to elements such as air and water. We generally use sandstone, river pebble or bluestone from local quarries in our Gabion walls.

6. How long will Gabions last? When PVC coated Galfan wire Gabions are used and the baskets are installed by experienced contractors, Gabions can last for over 100 years. Prospect Contractors’ installers are trained in accordance with the Maccaferri guidelines for Gabion installation and our quality installation work will help insure the Gabions are around for a lifetime!

7. How much do the walls cost? Cost will depend on the size and location of the wall, so send us your plans or give us a call for more information.

8. Do you offer free quotes? Yes we do. If you have a home or business located on or near a busy road, the noise can be a real problem. It can interfere with sleep, rest and conversation and cause irritability, headaches and stress. There are ways noise can be reduced inside your home, from using glazing on the windows and insulation in the walls. There are also certain types of noise reducing walls and fences that can be built around your property that can help significantly reduce the sound of the traffic.

Noise from heavy traffic can be up to 80db and as this simple infographic below shows (courtesy Gabion1) a traditional meter thick Gabion wall will substantially reduce sound compared to other types of walls and fences. Gabions are an ideal choice as they diffuse, absorb and reduce traffic noise, with the sound unable to pass under or through the thickness of the stonewall. Sandbags are also often incorporated into the traditional wire Gabions, increasing the sound absorption. Traditional Gabions therefore provide greater noise protection, even without added sandbags. Our slimline Rockweld fencing however, will still help reduce sound in comparison to other traditional types of fencing. This type of fencing has the added benefit of being fire proof (unlike brush fencing), an undesirable surface for tagging, as well as being a very strong and durable structure. In the unfortunate event of a vehicle crashing into the fence, the fence will stay intact and standing! You can see the difference between the traditional wire Gabions and Rockweld noise walls on our website.

Ideally the wall or fence needs to be high and wide enough to create a large enough 'acoustic shadow'. This 'shadow' is the area created from the noise barrier, which blocks the flow of sound waves to the home (see diagram below from www.nudec.cat). To be even more effective, fences also need to extend down side boundaries, or be long enough to provide at least 160° of protection.

Gates are also an important feature. They need to preferably be constructed from a dense or solid material that will also reduce noise. It is important that there are little or no gaps underneath or on either side of the gate, as gaps will allow sound to pass through. A fence that has a return back to the gate creating an alcove, will also provide extra noise protection.

The owners of this home on a very busy corner of North East Road are very impressed with their Rockweld fence saying that it has reduced the noise by at least 50%. The extra wall inside the gate added as a Feng Shui feature wall, would also have the added bonus of helping to reduce noise.

Contact Prospect Contractors for more information and a free quote.

Kalyra Heights Rockweld Walls - Case Study

Prospect Contractors recently installed several Rockweld Gabion retaining walls at Kalyra Heights, a new retirement development in Belair. The finished look is striking and modern, at the same time blending the exterior with the natural environment. The Gabions will provide a striking contrast to rendered walls and other building materials and can even be used as a backdrop for climbing plants, creating a living wall.

Not only do Gabions look great but Gabion facades also offer thermal protection, providing insulation from the heat and cold. They also have the added benefit of reducing noise from outside and become an effective sound proofing solution.

Gabions can also be utilised in interior walls also providing sound insulation and enhancing the acoustics. This application works well in restaurants and cafes that require a method of reducing noise from diners and waiting staff. Hard reflective surfaces will bounce most noise back into the room, whereas Gabions applied as cladding will absorb, diffuse and reduce the noise considerably.

We have collected some impressive examples from projects around the world to illustrate the beauty of Gabion cladding! Homes and shacks along South Australian beaches have experienced the effects of the one in twenty year storm and we have had enquiries about Gabions and how they can help with coastal protection.

Reports show that climate change, which is increasing sea levels, will adversely impact our coasts. Coastal systems & low-lying areas will be increasingly subject to submergence, coastal flooding & erosion. Beaches, sand dunes and cliffs will continue to erode under increasing sea level(1). Over half the Australian coastline is vulnerable to erosion from rising sea levels, putting not only homes and businesses at risk but also effecting much of Australia’s critical infrastructure such as transport, commercial, defence and tourism industries.

It is not only human infrastructure that is at risk - coastal wetlands, saltmarshes, mudflats, mangroves seagrass beds, rocky shores and sandy beaches are also vulnerable. These provide important habitats for many species, including commercially and recreationally important fish and shellfish(2).

There are many types of sea walls including concrete, brick or block walls, mounded boulders and Gabions. Gabions sea walls have been used in many coastal locations around the world and have several advantages:

As they are flexible and porous they can absorb substantial wave and wind energy, reducing the scour problems that are associated with impermeable walls such as concrete seawalls. The PVC coated Maccaferri wire mesh baskets we use are one of the few construction materials that can withstand highly corrosive marine environments. They offer up to three times more protection against corrosion than zinc coated wire. Our Gabions are strong - the double twisted wire and fastening procedure we use ensures that the units act as one extremely strong monolithic structure.Gabions are aesthetically pleasing and blend in with the coastal environment, which is enhanced when vegetation growth is encouraged.Gabions provide an excellent habitat for all marine and fresh water species. Spaces between the rocks quickly become filled with silt, which encourages vegetation growth. These spaces can also provide protective habitats for small aquatic creatures to live and lay their eggs etc.

Prospect Contractors have successfully installed Gabions sea walls in marine environments such as at Encounter Lakes, Victor Harbor, the Patawalonga River, Glenelg and at Bar Beach, NSW. Our Gabions will stand firm and straight and remain that way. This is because of several factors:

1. We only use quality assured Maccaferri and Geofabric baskets that provide strength, flexibility and durability. Their strength comes from a double twisted hexagonal mesh of steel wire. In the event of accidental breakage of one or more wires, the double twisted wire configuration ensures that minimal strength reduction occurs.

2. We only use suitable rock that must be dense, hard, durable and resistant to elements such as air and water. We generally use sandstone or bluestone in our walls. Rock size must be a minimum of 100mm and a maximum of 250mm.

3. We hand place the flat face of each rock against the sides of the baskets, minimizing gaps and creating a flat, uniform finish which also reduces pressure on the walls of the baskets.

The Gabion baskets we use are made from zinc galvanised woven wire mesh with a PVC coating for extra durability and our Gabions will generally last up to 100 years in a normal everyday dry environment, or 70 years fully submerged in water!

For Gabions installed the right way, the first time, call Prospect Contractors!

Example of sagging Gabions (photo on left) and a new replacement Gabion wall installed by Prospect Contractors (photo on right).

Case Study - Campbelltown Leisure Centre

Prospect Contractors contracted by Sarah Constructions, recently installed 800m3 of Gabions at the new leisure centre at Campbelltown, SA. The difference between these are outlined below.

Traditional Wire Gabions installed by Prospect Contractors are quality assured Maccaferri Gabion, double twisted wire baskets. Our Gabions are installed by our fully trained staff in accordance with Maccaferri guidelines, insuring consistant outstanding quality of the finished product. As we 'hand face' our Gabions, they are renowned for their clean straight lines. We do not supply the baskets on their own.

The wire Gabion baskets are one meter cubes (that can be halved in height) and are ideally suited to retaining walls and noise walls. They are also best suited to any aquatic environment as they are very strong and flexible, conforming to any movement as well as being environmentally friendly.

Rockweld is a welded mesh Gabion product by Prospect Contractors. Rockweld is made from rigid, lightweight, galvanised steel mesh and the rock can be 'tipped-in' or 'hand faced' creating a more uniform flat face.

Rockweld is an ideal alternative to traditional types of fencing such as brush fencing, as they are fire proof and graffiti resistant. The look is natural as well as modern and the fences look great from both sides of the fence! Seating and low retaining walls also look great as well as being functional.

For more project photos see our Portfolio Page.

Hand faced sandstone in traditional wire Gabions

Hand faced sandstone in Rockweld

Rockweld - 'tipped in' bluestone

Hand-faced Bluestone Rockweld

Winners are Grinners!

Prospect Contractors were presented with an award at the Landscape Association SA Awards on Friday the 20th of November.
